Nick & James
Semi-Finalist
Category Winner - Modern Country 4

Born and raised in Gympie, home of the Toyota National Country Music Muster, Nick was introduced to music at High School by his music teacher Dr Geoff Walden who founded the Country Music School of Excellence. Nick picked up a guitar for the first time in his Year 8 music class and it felt just right.

It was at school that he met up with James. Even at the age of 14 James's ability on the guitar turned heads and his love for music was recognised by the music department.

Over the next few years, Nick as lead vocals and James on lead guitar in the band BRANDED travelled extensively performing and honing their skills under the guidence of Dr Walden. Branded travelled to Tamworth in 2006 and 2007 and enjoyed performing with Graeme Jensen at the Locomotive Hotel and West Leagues Club.

At the 2006 Toyota National Country Music Muster, Branded was invited to play at the

25th Anniversary celebrations and were introduced as the" future" of Country music. They played alongside the Webb Bros, introduced as the" original" and James Blundell applauded as the "present".

2006 also saw Branded win the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Talent Search final. At the Campfire Concert the boys wowed the crowd as Nick belted out "Hillbilly Shoes" and their original "I've Got My Eyes on You". James had the crowd screaming for more with his guitar solo's and it was evident for all to see that he was where he wanted to be - on stage.

In September last year a trip to Nashville was organised by Dr Walden. Hiring their gear from Soundcheck ( the same day as Keith Urban ) and getting on the road, performing every day has given Nick and James a taste of a life they really want. Something that won't be forgotten was an invitation to perform at The Grand Ole Opry. Travel commitments thwarted this from happening but the prestige still remains. A day with songwriter/producer Mark Moffat was a highlight and time spent at Eckert Lab Studios recording their own Nashville song, "He Walks Alone" was a rewarding experience for both young men.

Gaining a place in the semi-finals at this years Toyota National Country Music Muster has only inspired Nick to continue learning, continue performing and continue enjoying Country Music.

Music and James go hand in hand and he plans to keep performing with Nick and Branded and wants to return to Nashville for their date at The Grand Ole Oprey.
