Since
forming in 1994 the Wolverines have introduced audiences all around Australia
& NZ to their unique blend of tongue-in-cheek humour, hard-hitting, rock-your-sox-off
Wolverines Music as well as the gentle art of having a bloody fantastic time!
These "likeable rogues" are seasoned performers who have combined
to produce an act that is uniquely visual, extremely musical and totally entertaining.
The Wolverines
5th CD, "GOOD TIMES" was released at Tamworth 2006 & was voted
Best Album at 2007 Peoples' Choice Awards. Produced by the highly acclaimed
Nashville musician & producer, Louie Shelton, "GOOD TIMES" is
a benchmark recording for the Wolverines. Darcy, Chris and John can be justifiably
proud of this one. Already being hailed as their "best ever" album,
the praise is flowing- "
..unquestionably of international standard
."(Country
Update) & "
the definitive release that really captures the
band's energy & diversity." (Capital News). "Good Times"
has something for everybody. The first single, "Angel Eyes", reached
no 1 on the Country Tracks Chart & 2nd single "Up & Done Died"
reached no 3 on the Country Top 100.
Their
4th album "MAKING TRACKS" (released on ACMEC label, April 2004),
has provided an abundance of material for their live performances. 'That's
The Price Of Love', 'Living On The Right Side Of Town', 'Simply Walk Away',
'The Greatest Lie Ever Told' and the cheeky 'Don't Look Now (Mama's Got Her
Boobs Out)" all hits with the crowds.
"MAKING
TRACKS" had a hard act to follow after their previous album, the 2002
ACMEC release "WOLVERINES & ROSES", (featuring the hit single
"65 Roses" and the exceptional "I Had A Dream"), still
recording high sales figures.
Released prior to "WOLVERINES & ROSES" hit single "65 Roses"
went GOLD in September 2001. Selling over 35,000 copies, this single raised
the awareness and much needed research funds for Cystic Fibrosis. "65
Roses" was also released in NZ and reached #1 on the Charts, and again
went GOLD!
Their
first two albums "GONNA RIDE ALL NIGHT LONG" and "FEEL THE
NEED TO RIDE" were both recorded in Nashville Tennessee, and are still
selling well on the ABC Music Label.
A Wolverines show is truly an experience....
Their musical style is hard to define..... ardent supporters would say, it's
simple....it's Wolverines Music, however others might say that Rock'n'Country
probably comes closest, but they provide a range of music, from Kick-ass Texan
Boogie through to soft, bluesy ballads, not to mention their treatment of
some of the best-known retro-classics and the sometimes less-than-tactful
alternatives to a few of our most revered Australian classics.
You won't
see the Wolverines hiding in a dressing room out the back somewhere stroking
their egos and getting up dutch courage - oh no! When they are not actually
on stage, they are meeting, greeting and getting to know their audience on
an individual level.... the Wolverines are renowned for their genuine friendliness....
PROFILE
on the Wolverines continues to rocket upwards; with TV & Live performances
proving very popular with audiences of all ages and demographics (French TV
recorded two stories in 2005 & 2006 on the band!)..... The Wolverines
are the masters of adaptability, whether performing to 40,000 at the Gympie
Muster, or a Black Tie audience at the Cystic Fibrosis Ball, or 10,000 kids
at their Tamworth Kids Charity Concert or to 10 kids in a Children's' Hospital
Ward.
Looks can be deceiving.....
Originally branded "The Bad Boys of Country" (could that have been
because of their 'feral corporate' style of dressing? their inexperience on
the electric shaver front? or was it their penchant for Harley-Davidson Motorbikes?)
these guys have proven themselves to be among the Music Industry's most generous
and caring supporters of children's' charities.....and the kids love them.......
Never
ones to walk away from a challenge, July 2003 saw the Wolverines leave their
bikes on land and head for the open sea. The Wolverines Sail for CF Kids tour,
sponsored by LJ HOOKER, involved the Wolverines sailing from Sydney to the
Whitsundays, with 14 ports and 14 gigs to raise both awareness and funds to
aid Cystic Fibrosis research.
In 2004 'A Little Bit Of Country' featured a one hour documentary on this
unique and highly successful project.
Wolverines' gigs are as diverse as the music they play...
As well as the full range of music festivals and touring throughout all States
and Territories the Wolverines are in hot demand for Pub, Club and Casino
gigs, Country Shows and Rodeos, B&S Balls, Weddings & Birthdays, Bike
and Truck Shows, Sailing Regattas and all types of Corporate and Private events.
They've
entertained at Camel Races, Kids' Concerts, events such as the Tamworth Festival,
Gympie Muster, Canowindra Balloon Festival, Easter Bike Races at Bathurst,
Harley Owners Group & Ulysses National rallies, Hogsbreath and Hamilton
Island Sailing Regattas, Australian & NZ Casinos, World Hereford Conference,
NZ Gold Guitar Awards in New Zealand, Road Transport Workers Hall of Fame
NT, Fraser Island Fishing Comp, Narooma Blues Festival not to mention performing
their own "Wolverines' music" to the American Marines in Okinawa,
Japan!
How these
"pseudo highwaymen" manage to appeal to the full span of ages is
difficult to explain.......it's really just something you have to experience.
It says a lot about their music and their style of entertainment though, when
the same song can elicit as strong a response from a pre-schooler at a kids'
concert, as an adult party-animal at a dance party, as a mature Grandmum at
a sit-down concert. But, just as no two audiences are the same, neither are
any two Wolverines' Shows.
The Wolverines.....an
entertainment experience not to be missed!!!!! |
